I was assistant to award-winning photographer, Jensen Hande, from 2015 to 2020. Here is what I learned:
- Better to get something right in production/ in camera.
- Time saved in production is time gained in post-production.
- The more experience you have capturing things in camera (in production), the better you’ll be at virtual imaging and compositing.
- Shoot for and in the ratio of the desired format.
- Nothing fixed in place. As soon as you mount a shelf on a wall, you’ll need that space.
- Smooth is fast. There’s a difference between efficiency and productivity. The latter can suffer because of the former.
- It’s easier and safer to pull a light stand toward you than to push it. This also applies to most things in life.
- Do less.
